Release notes

The agent finishes cleaner and gets stuck less

0.2.0-beta.165 · October 21, 2026

A polish release. The agent's check that it really finished now works on reasoning models, it is no longer offered tools that cannot work where it runs, and a run that gets stuck pauses instead of looping.

Improved

  • The check that an answer really finishes the work now gets a real answer from reasoning models such as DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. Before, it almost always came back empty and was skipped.
  • The agent is no longer offered git tools in a folder that is not a git repository, or tools in an SSH workspace that would act on your Mac instead of the host.
  • Formatting a file with no formatter installed now says the file was left unchanged, instead of showing a failure.
  • Typing in or reading one of your terminals now asks for it first, instead of failing and asking on the next step.
  • The agent keeps scratch files (helper scripts, message drafts, screenshots) in .vortex/scratch/ in your project, which git ignores, instead of /tmp.
  • The agent can read the source of your dependencies (Cargo, Rust toolchains, Go modules, pyenv) to answer questions about them. It still only edits files in your workspace.
  • An SSH workspace now waits out a short VPN or Wi-Fi drop (up to 45 seconds) before stopping the run as disconnected.

Fixed

  • A run where the model kept sending the same refused tool call now tries to recover and then pauses for you. Before, it could loop hundreds of times until you stopped it.
  • File-contention checks work in SSH workspaces.

Vortex

You describe the work. Vortex plans, edits, verifies, and ships inside your workspace. The editor, terminal, diffs, and browser are how you watch and steer — not where you are expected to write the solution.
